Talk to him gently, say you appreciate the sentiments but you had really hoped for a different ring and can you go together to see what the options are. The proposal is already done so if you find a new ring, have a fancy date night to celebrate and make memories that way. Definitely talk to him. When I designed my engagement ring with the jeweller, this was suggested to me since I’m a seamstress. The jeweller himself said that prongs/claws can weaken over time and even fully break off if you keep having to bend them back into shape. My ring doesn’t catch on anything or get stuff stuck in it and it’s awesome..
